We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to represent Girl Scouts at upcoming Elementary School Open House events in Hendry and Glades County!

This is a simple and impactful way to help girls and families in your community discover all the opportunities Girl Scouts has to offer.

United Way Volunteer Center is recruiting volunteers for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)  and TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) programs to serve as tax preparers, greeters, interpreters, and coordinators to provide FREE tax preparation to those in our community who have low to moderate-income. Volunteers assist taxpayers by not only preparing a complete and accurate return and ensuring all eligible credits are claimed; they also save the taxpayer from paying preparation fees--money which can, instead, be used on food, diapers, medical expenses, clothing, daycare, rent, etc. 

Previous experience filing taxes is not required, and we provide training. The most important skills to have include:

The tax software does most of the math, so there's not a lot of manual calculation that has to happen.

Training is provided. We have in-person and online options. 

Our VITA/TCE program has over 20 sites located throughout Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Charlotte counties, and this will be our third year in Immokalee!   Each site has its own schedule and hours are flexible! Please register today and join our team!

As an IRS-certified VITA volunteer, you will work alongside amazing community members who, each year, prepare thousands of tax returns in Southwest Florida for very appreciative taxpayers.

Role Overview
As a Forklift Driver Volunteer, you’ll play a critical role in our food distribution operations by safely moving and staging palletized food donations. Your efforts help us efficiently pack orders and ensure our partner agencies receive the supplies they need.

Key Responsibilities

Operate sit-down or stand-up forklift to load, unload, and transport pallets of food and supplies

Stage pallets in designated storage or staging areas according to pick-list instructions

Perform daily pre- and post-shift forklift safety inspections and report any mechanical issues

Assist warehouse team with general tasks as needed (e.g., wrapping pallets, organizing inventory)

Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment

Volunteers are needed for a variety of projects to help get ready for distribution!

Make new friends, work as a team, learn new skills and help provide food to those in need!

A wide variety of projects including sorting and packing, receiving and/or distributing, cleaning, etc. on an ongoing basis, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday between 8 am and 3 pm.

Midwest Food Bank serves non-profit organizations such as food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches, and other non-profit organizations helping their community. On Tuesdays, volunteers are needed to assist agencies with shopping and loading food cases into their vehicles, from 8:45 am until 12:30 pm, lunch is included. Volunteers 16 and older are welcome. Other opportunities are also available on other weekdays at flexible times between 8 am-3 pm. The Senior Friendship Centers Friendly Visitor/Telephone Reassurance Program matches volunteers with local home-bound seniors who request a friend to call or come to their home about once per week to check-in and provide some company. Depending on interests, you might talk about upcoming events, talk about the weather, take a walk, play card games, watch tv, or just have a nice chat. We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy getting to know and build relationships with a local senior on a one-on-one basis, call or visiting them in their home.

Put your faith in action by volunteering with us and helping provide transportation to isolated, frail elders to doctor's appointments, shopping, etc. Volunteers provide transportation to our senior clients' essential medical appointments such as general practitioner, specialists, eye exams,  dentist, and life-saving screenings. The minimum age is 55; sorry, no court service accepted. Clients sit in the back seat and must be able to get in and out of their car without any help or contact with the volunteer. Our Meals on Wheels program is in critical need of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors in Lee County. The role of the volunteer is far more important than the meals they deliver. They are often the only contact our recipients have all day. They provide a warm smile and a caring attitude. They are a safety check to help ensure our recipient's well-being. They are the eyes and ears of Meals On Wheels and often alert us to recipients with additional needs. We are able to schedule most volunteers for service near their home or office.

We are always looking for dependable drivers who are willing to donate 1- 3 hours of time once a week. We have 37 delivery routes and 4 transport routes per week across southwest florida so you can found a route near YOU!

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are local, personal disasters like home fires. Disaster Action Teams (DAT) provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officer ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional DAT responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program at the chapter level.

Volunteers will choose their own shifts throughout the month based on these available, daily shift times.  Preferred time commitment is minimum 1 shift per week.

Overnight          12 a.m. (Midnight) to 8am  

Days                    8am – 6pm, (or 8am – 12 p.m. & Noon – 6pm)

Evening              6pm - Midnight

While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing, or supplies and connecting them to long-term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

The cornerstone of our United Way, the annual Fund Distribution Process brings together teams of volunteers who help meet the social service needs of our community by ensuring fiscal responsibility and program accountability for every agency receiving United Way funding. Volunteers gain insight into local needs, assess agency effectiveness, and help direct United Way dollars responsibly and impactfully.

In Lee County, Fund Distribution takes place each March and April. Volunteers are assigned to a team that meets twice: first for a one-hour virtual review of two agencies, and then for an in-person site visit to tour the agencies and finalize funding recommendations. The total commitment is about five hours.

This process is informative, rewarding, and a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow community-minded leaders. We would love to have you join one of the many teams serving Lee County!

Volunteers have the opportunity to volunteer with our Activities Department staff, assisting with the activities that our residents engage in. Such activities include bingo, trivia, sing-a-longs, arts & crafts, monthly socials/parties, one-on-one activities or sharing a special talent such as music or another artistic ability with our residents.

We are also looking for volunteers with the following skills to assist at our Concierge desk:

Duties include greeting visitors, directing visitors, answering phones.

Lastly, we are looking for volunteers to shuttle residents and guests to and from the different buildings on our campus. This is a FUN volunteer position and a great opportunity to interact with our residents. Volunteers serving in this capacity will operate an 6 person golf cart and MUST BE 21 years of age, with a valid driver’s license and minimal traffic violations. Shifts are 2 1/2 hours in the morning from 8:45 - 11:15 AM or in the afternoon from 12:45 - 3:15 PM.

Gulf Coast Village is looking for high school volunteers to assist with resident's activities, serving in our dining room or helping at our Concierge Desk.

It's a great way to reduce social isolation in older adults and bridge the generation gap! It also looks great on resumes and college applications for those looking to get into the medical or social services field.

One-on-one literacy and math tutors are needed for our Fall session which will run from September through December. Tutors meet weekly for 1 hour with the same student during the 14-week session. the time commitment is 2.5 to 3 hours weekly. Tutors and students are matched by their availability. Tutoring takes place at GiGi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center in Ft. Myers. Students aged 3 to adults will be participating. Our Literacy and Math Coordinators will provide training. All materials will be provided.

GiGi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center, Ft. Myers is looking for Literacy and Math Coordinators. the coordinators oversee our one-on-one literacy and math tutoring programs. The programs provide three 14-week sessions- Spring, Summer, and Fall.  Coordinators organize each session, train, supervise tutors and collect and input data regarding the students' progress. training will be provided. Coordinators time commitment is 3-4 hours weekly while the tutoring session are in progress.

In the event of a disaster, United Way operates the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) after the event.

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades in conjunction with the Lee Emergency Management Division will be the liaison in connecting volunteers to partners needing assistance. The  VRC is set up and staffed to intake and match volunteer skills with unmet needs in the community.

Examples of opportunities:  

Volunteer Reception Center positions include registration and volunteer intake and interviewing, data collection and entry, safety training, phone bank, runners, greeters, etc.  

The VRC serves to coordinate volunteers who are not currently established with an organization to help support relief efforts under the direction of Emergency Management. Volunteers will be assigned duties as needed by the VRC volunteer staff. (A spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteer or SUV is a person who has not received current, formal disaster response training from a state organization or agency active in disaster. ) 

There is a role for anyone who would like to become certified and assist at the Volunteer Reception Center in times of emergency. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. No special skills are necessary.

If you are active and enjoy being with older adults, we have opportunities for you!  The Area Agency on Aging Southwest FL provides exercise classes and caregiver programs throughout seven counties.  Our programs include the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP), Matter of Balance, Tai Chi for Arthritis Falls Prevention, Walk With Ease, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Savy Caregiver, and Powerful Tools for Caregivers.  The Area Agency on Aging will pay for the classes for the individual to be trained.  We will also cover the cost of attending a CPR class if the program requires one.  The agency will help you find a place for your class and pay for your mileage to and from the program.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions!!

Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida is proud to announce their new fatherhood mentorship program, "Level Up! Dads".  We are seeking any man who is confident in his abilities as a father to help mentor other fathers, boyfriends, step-fathers, and relatives who find themselves in the position of a father, but lacking the support and confidence needed to meet their full potential. 

Volunteers will be matched and paired with clients based on children's ages and number, interests, and values and will be allowed to grow their own relationship, be it as simple as weekly phone calls, to as in-depth as regular outings and meet-ups.  Your goal as a Dadvocate will be to offer support, guidance, and education to these men putting in the effort to be the best version of themselves possible for their children. 

Dadvocates are asked to maintain at least once per week contact with their assigned Dad as well as check in with program staff every three weeks.

Dadvocates are more than welcome, though not required, to attend any and all Level Up! Dads sponsored events.

Interested in gaining some experience working with seniors who live in a medical environment? The Lodge at Cypress Cove is seeking volunteers in high school to interact with seniors for a multigenerational experience. Many volunteers have an opportunity to work alongside our nurses, nursing assistants, and physical therapists. This experience looks great on resumes and college applications!

Hours are flexible, 7 days a week.  The following is a typical schedule and activities that volunteers assist with.

8:30am: Help pass out the Daily Chronicles and greet residents

9:30am: Assist residents to the morning activity and help to lead the activity.

1:30pm: Assist residents to the morning activity and help to lead the activity 

Assisting residents to and from activities includes encouraging the residents to attend, pushing a wheelchair, or walking alongside those who use a walker.

Examples of Activities: Provide manicures, socialize with residents, assist with arts & crafts, BINGO, room-to-room food-related programs, and physical and cognitive activities (beach ball toss, trivia).

Maybe you have a special talent or passion that you could share with our residents. And of course, we love well-behaved dog visits!

Welcome Families to Group Nights and Assist with Parking

Be a welcoming smile as families come through the doors of Valerie's House on group nights. Assist children, teens, and caregivers with sign-in and name tags. Mingle and get to know our families. Have a friend who wants to volunteer? Bring them along!

Parking is tight, so help us get all vehicles parked safely.

A commitment of one hour, two evenings a month from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, is encouraged.

Help Set up, Serve, and Clean up Potluck Dinners

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this is held at Valerie's House. Join us twice a month to set up, serve, and clean up dinner. Please get to know our families as they join you in the kitchen!

A commitment of at least 1.5 hours, two evenings a month from 5:30 - 7:30 pm is encouraged.

Our Buddy volunteers must go through training before starting as a volunteer. Once they complete the training, they will sit in a group with the children & help facilitate the activity for the night and help engage the children. 

Hours for this opportunity are from 5:30pm-8:30pm

The group is held Monday-Thursday

The next training is October 14th from 9am-5pm and October 15th from 1pm-5pm.

The Atrium at Liberty Park has a special area for residents who have memory disorders like dementia or Alzheimer's and is seeking volunteers in high school to interact with seniors for a multigenerational experience.

This experience looks great on resumes and college applications for those interested in medical or social sciences.

Hours are flexible, with availability 7 days a week. 

Monday-Friday: 3pm-6pm

Saturday & Sunday: 10am-3pm

Volunteers can assist residents in the dining room and with activities.

Examples of Activities: Manicures, socializing with residents, assisting with arts & crafts, BINGO, room-to-room food-related programs, and physical and cognitive activities (beach ball toss, trivia).

The mission of Lee BIA Builders Care is to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and disabled homeowners who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means. Builders Care exists to improve the quality of life for these deserving Lee County residents. Recipients are elderly and/or disabled individuals of all ages who are in financial need and are living with housing conditions that pose a safety or health threat.

Builders Care is seeking high school students to assist with projects ranging from building wheelchair ramps, landscaping, painting, and other various projects. This is a perfect opportunity for students interested in getting first-hand experience in construction or trades like heating and cooling. Afternoon volunteer opportunity available.
