As you know due to the far-reaching devastation, many of our partner organization of volunteers have deployed up north. GPIA is in need of skilled and unskilled volunteers alike to assist with the damage in our own community. 

Opportunities include muck and gut, debris removal, personal item packing etc. We are also in need of dump trailers.

As we know the road to recovery is long, but together we are stronger than the surge.

 

While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing, or supplies and connecting them to long-term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 until November 30. The Department is recruiting Hope Heroes to be ready to support seniors before and after a hurricane strikes. What does disaster assistance look like as a Hope Hero?

The Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, is a national free training program which prepares residents and community members to better prepare themselves, their families, and their neighbors, in the event of a local disaster. CERT Basic Training covers the following course topics Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety & Utility Controls, Disaster Psychology and Medical Operations, and Light Search and Rescue Operations, and more.

Course Schedule: Class 1: Disaster Preparedness & CERT Organization Class 2: Disaster Medical Parts 1 & 2 Class 3: Search and Rescue & Fire Safety and Utility Controls Class 4: Terrorism and CERT & Course Exercise Class 5: Disaster Psychology & Graduation

Upon completion of the CERT Basic Training course, our volunteers are able to support the City and the Department with additional emergency response related activities and our EOC Activations.
