DO YOU HAVE AN HOUR A WEEK TO VOLUNTEER??

If you are active and enjoy being with older adults, we have opportunities for you!  The Area Agency on Aging Southwest FL provides exercise classes and caregiver programs throughout seven counties.  Our programs include the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP), Matter of Balance, Tai Chi for Arthritis Falls Prevention, Walk With Ease, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Savy Caregiver, and Powerful Tools for Caregivers.  The Area Agency on Aging will pay for the classes for the individual to be trained.  We will also cover the cost of attending a CPR class if the program requires one.  The agency will help you find a place for your class and pay for your mileage to and from the program.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions!!

Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida is proud to announce their new fatherhood mentorship program, "Level Up! Dads".  We are seeking any man who is confident in his abilities as a father to help mentor other fathers, boyfriends, step-fathers, and relatives who find themselves in the position of a father, but lacking the support and confidence needed to meet their full potential. 

Volunteers will be matched and paired with clients based on children's ages and number, interests, and values and will be allowed to grow their own relationship, be it as simple as weekly phone calls, to as in-depth as regular outings and meet-ups.  Your goal as a Dadvocate will be to offer support, guidance, and education to these men putting in the effort to be the best version of themselves possible for their children. 

Dadvocates are asked to maintain at least once per week contact with their assigned Dad as well as check in with program staff every three weeks.

Dadvocates are more than welcome, though not required, to attend any and all Level Up! Dads sponsored events.

Volunteers work in the many gardens, repair fencing, paint, and maybe even feed the chickens, all while learning about sustainability.

Interested in gaining some experience working with seniors who live in a medical environment? The Lodge at Cypress Cove is seeking volunteers in high school to interact with seniors for a multigenerational experience. Many volunteers have an opportunity to work alongside our nurses, nursing assistants, and physical therapists. This experience looks great on resumes and college applications!

Hours are flexible, 7 days a week.  The following is a typical schedule and activities that volunteers assist with.

8:30am: Help pass out the Daily Chronicles and greet residents

9:30am: Assist residents to the morning activity and help to lead the activity.

1:30pm: Assist residents to the morning activity and help to lead the activity 

Assisting residents to and from activities includes encouraging the residents to attend, pushing a wheelchair, or walking alongside those who use a walker.

Examples of Activities: Provide manicures, socialize with residents, assist with arts & crafts, BINGO, room-to-room food-related programs, and physical and cognitive activities (beach ball toss, trivia).

Maybe you have a special talent or passion that you could share with our residents. And of course, we love well-behaved dog visits!

Welcome Families to Group Nights and Assist with Parking

Be a welcoming smile as families come through the doors of Valerie's House on group nights. Assist children, teens, and caregivers with sign-in and name tags. Mingle and get to know our families. Have a friend who wants to volunteer? Bring them along!

Parking is tight, so help us get all vehicles parked safely.

A commitment of one hour, two evenings a month from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, is encouraged.

Help Set up, Serve, and Clean up Potluck Dinners

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this is held at Valerie's House. Join us twice a month to set up, serve, and clean up dinner. Please get to know our families as they join you in the kitchen!

A commitment of at least 1.5 hours, two evenings a month from 5:30 - 7:30 pm is encouraged.

Our Buddy volunteers must go through training before starting as a volunteer. Once they complete the training, they will sit in a group with the children & help facilitate the activity for the night and help engage the children. 

Hours for this opportunity are from 5:30pm-8:30pm

The group is held Monday-Thursday

The next training is October 14th from 9am-5pm and October 15th from 1pm-5pm.

An assisted living residence or assisted living facility (ALF) is a housing facility for people with disabilities or for adults who cannot or who choose not to live independently.

The Atrium at Liberty Park has a special area for residents who have memory disorders like dementia or Alzheimer's and is seeking volunteers in high school to interact with seniors for a multigenerational experience.

This experience looks great on resumes and college applications for those interested in medical or social sciences.

Hours are flexible, with availability 7 days a week. 

Monday-Friday: 3pm-6pm

Saturday & Sunday: 10am-3pm

Volunteers can assist residents in the dining room and with activities.

The mission of Lee BIA Builders Care is to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and disabled homeowners who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means. Builders Care exists to improve the quality of life for these deserving Lee County residents. Recipients are elderly and/or disabled individuals of all ages who are in financial need and are living with housing conditions that pose a safety or health threat.

Builders Care is seeking high school students to assist with projects ranging from building wheelchair ramps, landscaping, painting, and other various projects. This is a perfect opportunity for students interested in getting first-hand experience in construction or trades like heating and cooling. Afternoon volunteer opportunity available.

A Recovery Community Organization (RCO), is an independent, non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of local communities of recovery from substance abuse disorders. These organizations organize recovery-focused policy advocacy activities, carry out recovery-focused community education and outreach programs, and/or provide peer-based recovery support services.

We have various events coming up we would need volunteers for. We also have several tasks at our community center that can be completed by volunteers. Tasks include cleaning, sorting, packing, labeling, organizing, and assisting during outreach events.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida is looking for volunteers in our warehouses and in the community. The work performed in our warehouses consists of sorting donated food, packing non-perishable food in boxes for distribution, packing fresh produce for distribution, and checking/sorting donated bread or other perishable products. Our warehouses are located at 3760 Fowler Street in Fort Myers and 3940 Prospect Ave in Naples, and we have shifts Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to Noon and from Noon to 3:00 pm. We are looking for consistent volunteers to tutor adult students looking to improve their English language. This program involves one-on-one tutoring flexible to the student and volunteers schedules (between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday). This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to have direct impact on someone's life. Some students may be true beginners with no English language skills, and some may just want to focus on vocabulary for a particular context like a job they're applying to. Someone who is bilingual in Spanish and English or has a background in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) would be a great asset to this program, but volunteers with no background are also welcome (and would be matched with a more advanced student). 

The mission of this program is to serve Harlem Heights senior citizens through community, education, enrichment, and the arts. The program is every Tuesday and Thursday  from 9am-12pm. This is a new program and I will need help leading activities, distributing meals, and keeping them engaged. Because it's new, I'm open to new ideas and would love consistent volunteers who want a say in how the program will look.

The first step is to complete your volunteer application – either online or by mail. When we receive your completed application, we’ll call to talk about your individual talents and interests.

Hope will process your background check and provide you with two TB tests, which are required before you may begin volunteering. These important steps help ensure the health and safety of the people in our care.

After all the required elements are complete, we’ll schedule your orientation class. Volunteer orientations are offered at different times and locations throughout the year. Upon completion, you’ll be assigned to a Volunteer Coordinator, who will help you begin volunteering at Hope!

About the GED: The GED (General Educational Development) exam tests students in math, language arts, science, and social studies.
Each subject requires a score of 145 to pass to earn a GED Diploma/Certificate (this can take place of a traditional high school diploma. 

Individuals may be interested in earning a GED certificate because most workplaces require potential employees to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Adults who didn't finish high school can meet that requirement by passing the GED exam.

About our GED tutoring program: Our GED tutoring program is a free program for Harlem Heights residents which relies on volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring tailored to the needs of their student. Students take a pre-test with us, then we determine which areas they need a tutor in. Volunteers may have a general education background and can work with the students in any of the 4 areas, or they may have a strong suit like math. This program is flexible, depending on the schedule of the volunteer and student (within the window of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday). This is a very impactful way to impact someone's life through one-on-one tutoring. You could help someone achieve their career goals.

Cancer Alliance of Naples is looking for assistance with reorganizing the kitchen and helping to support cleaning the office. This task is typically done by staff so it would be a huge help to have support to divide the tasks. 

We are a small staff and try to get it done ourselves, but with the constant increase for our services, we need help with this now more than ever. We will gladly accept the help of anyone willing. 

The opportunity is open for anytime during the timeframe, it does not need to take the entire time given.

There will be an experienced school FAFSA staff worker on site, we need volunteers to help parents as they complete their own applications. You don't have to be the 'all-knowing' person, there are handouts and cheat sheets, and an experienced person on site.

Our volunteers are a huge part of what makes Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium a success. We have two annual signature events, Haunted Walk and Holiday Lights. We are always looking for volunteers to join the planning committee and/or event day volunteers.

Starting in September, we transform one of our trails into a spooky path through the woods and then in November we start turning it to a sparking Christmas Light paradise.  This is accomplished with the help of amazing community volunteers. So whether turning our pineland trail into a creepy crawly haunted experience or adding twinkling lights to brighten everyone's December, Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium has something for you!!!

The Family Meal Program provides support to families who are taking care of their sick children, and often don’t have the time, funds, or energy to prepare a home-cooked meal. After a long day at the hospital, a hot meal is a blessing! Watch this video below to see how our program works!

Please note: House volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Family Room volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and complete a Lee Health Volunteer Application provided by Volunteer Manager Illeny Farese, in order to volunteer at Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, is a national free training program which prepares residents and community members to better prepare themselves, their families, and their neighbors, in the event of a local disaster. CERT Basic Training covers the following course topics Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety & Utility Controls, Disaster Psychology and Medical Operations, and Light Search and Rescue Operations, and more.

Upon completion of the CERT Basic Training course, our volunteers are able to support the City and the Department with additional emergency response related activities and our EOC Activations.

In 1988, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office formed a volunteer unit that was known as Volunteer Observers Impacting Community Effort, a.k.a., VOICE. The primary responsibilities of these volunteers were to supplement the agency’s road patrol and to provide additional administrative support. Today, this has evolved to over 110 men and women who commit their time to benefit the agency and our community.

It is the goal of Sheriff Carmine Marceno to constantly seek new methods and procedures that will make Lee County a leader in the state of Florida. As a result, the VOICE team has been rebranded to become the Civilian Support Unit (CSU). There is now a fully dedicated agency team to manage the unit under the direction of veteran Captain William Murphy, Jr. The uniforms, vehicles, and training are being updated and branded to reflect this change and we are expanding the breadth of the tasks for the unit.

Our CSU program allows for certified deputies to continue focusing on policing and enforcement functions by providing supplemental support services. Additionally, these programs create valuable connections between law enforcement and citizens of Lee County. The volunteers we have today are not just a luxury, but a key component in our Community Policy objectives to keep Lee County a great place to live.
