Volunteer Drivers are needed for this year’s STAMP OUT HUNGER food drive.

On Saturday, May 9th, letter carriers across the country will once again collect donations of non-perishable food items to fill the shelves of local food pantries, and they need help from volunteers like you! Volunteer drivers have 5 locations to choose from,  with shifts ranging from 1pm to 4pm, 1pm to 5pm, or 1pm to 6pm depending on location.

The USPS National Food Drive is a one-day event where the community comes together to fight hunger!

Join us in collecting thousands of food donations, which will be distributed to support local families each week in SWFL.

                

Volunteer Opportunity: Help Us Support High School Blood Drives!

United Way Volunteer Center is seeking a friendly, reliable volunteer to represent United Way at local high school blood drives. As a proud partner of Lee Health, we’re committed to helping boost student participation in these life-saving events—and we need your help to make it happen!

Thanks to our generous donors, we provide $10 gift cards to students who donate blood. Your role? Be the smiling face who hands them out and encourages their incredible act of giving.

In the event of a disaster, United Way operates the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) after the event.

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades in conjunction with the Lee Emergency Management Division will be the liaison in connecting volunteers to partners needing assistance. The  VRC is set up and staffed to intake and match volunteer skills with unmet needs in the community.  

Please respond and complete your profile, if you are interested in being contacted in the event of an emergency. Once it is safe to enter the community we will reach out and notify you of available roles.

Examples of opportunities:  

Salvation Army may need volunteers to help in their mass-feeding kitchens following a disaster The American Red Cross may need volunteers to case-manage victims of a hurricane and direct them to  temporary assistance  An elderly person may need volunteers to help clear debris from their yard or flood-soaked carpet  removed from their home  Home-bound victims may need water or food delivered by volunteers  and many, many more opportunities. 

Volunteer Reception Center positions include registration and volunteer intake and interviewing, data collection and entry, safety training, phone bank, runners, greeters, etc.  

The VRC serves to coordinate volunteers who are not currently established with an organization to help support relief efforts under the direction of Emergency Management. Volunteers will be assigned duties as needed by the VRC volunteer staff. (A spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteer or SUV is a person who has not received current, formal disaster response training from a state organization or agency active in disaster. ) 

There is a role for anyone who would like to become certified and assist at the Volunteer Reception Center in times of emergency. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. No special skills are necessary.

Need Volunteer Hours? Just want to help out?

Often we have events or last-minute things we could use some extra hands for from Golf or Fishing Tournaments to a simple campaign mailing. 

Hours and days are flexible- we are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, but some events may be in the evening or weekends, so let us know what works for you. Respond to this opportunity and we will be in touch! Thank you.

United Way Volunteer Center (UWVC) provides a unique experience for individuals to join our team and make an impact in the community through our Ambassador Program. UWVC Ambassadors become model spokespeople for our organization to emphasize the importance of volunteering and the mission of United Way as a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people in our community. UWVC attends many outreach events to share our mission and promote in-house and partner volunteer opportunities to our local communities. Reaching out to people is an important part of what we do to increase awareness and drive community involvement.
