What you will do as a VITA/TCE Tax Expert Volunteer
- Meet with Taxpayers - Interview taxpayers and gather the information needed to prepare their returns.
- Review Tax Documents - Examine income statements, tax forms, and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Learn Tax Preparation Software - Receive training on IRS-approved tax software.
- Prepare and Review Tax Returns - Work with experienced volunteers to prepare accurate tax returns and tax law topics.
- Help Families & Individuals Navigate Tax Season - Provide taxpayers with a positive experience and help them understand the tax filing process.
- Make a Meaningful Difference - Help individuals access free, high-quality tax assistance.
What you will do as a VITA/TCE Greeter
- Create a welcoming environment - Greet clients as they come in and maintain a sign-in sheet to ensure the site flows smoothly per the directions of your site coordinator.
- Ensure Taxpayers are comfortable - Help manage taxpayers waiting for their appointments by directing them to restrooms, water, etc.
- Help boost morale - Keep a positive attitude and help the volunteers and taxpayers have a high-quality, positive experience overall.
- Provide translation assistance - If that is part of your role and you are able to provide the assistance during tax appointments.
